Houston
Receptionist

Founded in Houston, Texas in 2001, Abel Design Group is a premier mid-size architecture and design firm with projects across the globe.  In addition to its headquarters in Houston, the firm also has offices in Austin, Denver, and Dallas.

Abel Design Group is seeking a Receptionist to join its Houston office 30-40 hours per week. The ideal candidate must possess excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills; strong attention to detail; administrative experience; and creative skills.  The candidate will be an integral part of keeping the company running smoothly and will be fully engaged and busy from the first day. Support for the Marketing department is an integral part of this position, as the creative candidate will help prepare proposals in Adobe InDesign along with various marketing administrative duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Politely greet and welcome visitors, and direct them to the appropriate person
  • Answer, screen, and forward incoming phone calls; maintain internal phone list
  • Update the company calendar, schedule presentations, and manage staff PTO calendar
  • Manage calendar and appointments for firm owner, including scheduling meetings, making travel arrangements, and updating electronic calendar accordingly
  • Maintain and update company contact information across all platforms
  • Receive and deliver packages and mail in a professional and organized manner
  • Send packages through courier or shipping service, and enter into accounting system
  • Track all office supply inventory; order, receive, and distribute new supplies as needed
  • Report any problems with the office or building to the appropriate parties
  • Assist in onboarding procedures for new employees, including ensuring they receive all necessary materials and familiarizing them with the office
  • Assist project teams with project set-up, including creating electronic and physical folders
  • Maintain finish library and ensure breakroom is kept clean and organized
  • Provide general office support, including but not limited to typing letters, creating labels/binders, making restaurant reservations, ordering lunch for in-house meeting

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • 2+ years receptionist or administrative experience in a corporate setting
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign preferred
  • Professional attitude and appearance, with customer service focus
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects with tremendous accuracy

ARCHITECT (3-5 Years)

This position will focus on Architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Work under Project Architect to produce excellent set of construction documents
  • Ensure technical resolution and coordination of design intent
  • Confirm that construction detail documentation conforms to quality assurance and best practices standards
  • Provide technical support and project communication
  • Work with consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies to meet project objectives
  • Conduct code analyses
  • Conduct on-site observations and prepare Architect’s field reports, as needed
  • Review submittals during construction, and maintain RFI and submittal logs
  • Coordinate multiple projects concurrently
  • Support project team with various administrative duties and project correspondence

 

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture
  • Proficiency in Revit required
  • Additional software used in the position may include AutoCAD, Photoshop, Illustrator, SketchUp, and 3-D Studio MAX
  • Experience in construction document preparation
  • Knowledge of building materials, specifications, construction, and building codes, including ADA
  • Sufficient knowledge of engineering disciplines to coordinate their work

PROJECT ARCHITECT (8+ years of experience)

This position will be out of the Denver office. 

Responsibilities:
• Implement all phases of projects, including client meetings, field verification, drawing production, material and furniture selection, and construction administration
• Manage client expectations regarding scope, budget, and schedule
• Maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships
• Manage project staffing, fees, and schedule
• Track and ensure project profitability
• Contribute to office initiatives and learning programs
• Participate in business development and marketing efforts
• Recruit and mentor staff
• Reports to Senior Project Manager or Associate Principal

Qualifications:
• 7+ years of relevant architecture or design experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design
